Saudi Arabia Affirms Receiving Email From Iranian Vessel Hit By Explosions In Red Sea

RIYADH, Oct 13 (NNN-SPA) – Saudi Arabia affirmed receiving an email from the Iranian vessel that was hit by explosions on Friday.

The General Directorate of Border Guards said, the email was sent to Jeddah Radio at noon, from the captain of the oil vessel SABITI, reporting the incident that caused an oil spill in the Red Sea.

After the information was analysed by the coordination centre, in order to provide any necessary assistance, it was found that the vessel continued operating, sailing 67 nautical miles to the southwest of Jeddah Port.

The vessel has closed the automated tracking system, without responding to the coordination centre’s communications.

The last position of the vessel was updated to 79 nautical miles in the southwest of Jeddah, and 64 nautical miles from the nearest point of the shore.

Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to the security and safety of maritime navigation, as well as, international agreements and norms.

On Friday, two separate explosions hit the Iranian oil tanker, SABITI, in the Red Sea, 60 miles off Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah port, Iranian official news agency IRNA reported.– NNN-SPA
