WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, met with visiting Salvadoran Foreign Minister, Alexandra Hill, on bilateral and regional issues, according to a U.S. State Department statement.
Pompeo and his Salvadoran counterpart discussed partnership between the two countries.
The two also discussed the importance of U.S.-Salvadoran cooperation, in stemming illegal immigration to the United States.
The Trump administration announced in June that Washington would no longer provide aid to the Northern Triangle countries, namely El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, until they reach asylum deals with the United States.
Last month, the United States and El Salvador signed an agreement that could force migrants travelling through El Salvador, to seek asylum there, instead of in the United States.– NNN-AGENCIES
