Ecuadorian workers, indigenous peoples announce new protests

QUITO, Oct 6 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Workers unions, indigenous communities and the people in general continue demonstrations of protest against the economic measures adopted by the government of Lenin Moreno, in Ecuador.

The announcement came shortly after 11 transport federations announced the end of a two-day strike in protest against Presidential Decree 883, through which the subsidy for extra fuel and diesel was eliminated.

“We ratify the continuity of the social struggle, with or without a decree,” stated directors of the United Workers Front and the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador.

As they warned, the national government’s threats to imprison social fighters who demand change will not intimidate them.

The actions seek to demand a change of direction in politics, the national economy and the need for a government that works for the benefit of the 17 million Ecuadorians.

Since Thursday, several sectors of society have taken to the streets in protest against tax and labor reforms adopted by the executive, with the argument of protecting the national economy, but in the opinion of the demonstrators, it only affects the working class. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
