KUWAIT, Oct 6 (NNN-KUNA) – The Diplomatic Women’s Committee of Kuwait (DWC) organised a forum entitled “Kuwait on the Silk Road,” to exhibit history, culture, and heritage along the ancient Silk Road trade routes.
On the sideline of the event, Narjes Al-Shatti, committee adviser, said that, DWC this year will focus on the Silk Road.
“We chose this theme to promote the idea of Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. When he visited China, he said, Kuwait should be a financial centre and there should be a city which refers to the Silk City of Kuwait,” she said.
“The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a long-term opportunity to achieve economic prosperity in the world,” she said, adding that, this initiative is in line with the visions of the Emir, to transform Kuwait into a trade and financial hub by 2035.
Lin Ying, guest of the committee and spouse of the Chinese ambassador to Kuwait, praised Kuwait as vital, in the ancient Silk Road and played an important role in promoting trade between Asia and Europe, noting Kuwait is one of the first Arab countries to sign cooperation documents under the BRI.
“Further alignment of the BRI with Kuwait Vision 2035 has become the overarching guideline leading China-Kuwait cooperation in the new era,” she said.
Through a diverse range of activities, organised by the committee, Kuwait will develop a better understanding of the Silk Road and China, “which will be conducive to more active participation in building the BRI,” she added.– NNN-KUNA
