JAKARTA, Oct 5 (NNN-ANTARA) — The Indonesian authorities have put the number of houses damaged by an earthquake of 6.5 magnitude on Sept 26, at over 6,000 units, in the country’s eastern Maluku province, with more than 100,000 people taking shelter, a disaster agency official said on Friday.
These figures were raised from the data released by the national disaster management agency, days after the quake, which said nearly 200 houses were damaged and over 25,000 people fled their home.
A total of 6,184 houses were recorded to be destroyed and 108,313 people staying at evacuation centres, spokesman of the national disaster management agency, Agus Wibowo, said, in a text message.
The quake left 34 people dead and 149 others wounded, the spokesman said.
A total of 56 public facilities were also destroyed by the quake, Agus added.
Three field hospitals have been set up to accommodate the needs of the evacuees, he said.
Other emergency relief aids, including 5,000 tents and 5,000 blankets, will be immediately sent to the quake-affected area, said Agus.– NNN-ANTARA
