Moderate Quake Strikes Off Eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA, Oct 4 (NNN-ANTARA) – An earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, jolted Indonesia’s eastern province of Papua on Thursday evening, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

The quake struck at 21:33 p.m. Jakarta time (1433 GMT), with epicentre at 31 km southeast of Mamberamo Tengah, and four km under the earth, it said.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire.”– NNN-ANTARA
