UNITED NATIONS, Oct 1 (NNN-KCNA) – A representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), asked the United States to drop its hostile policy against Pyongyang.
The key to consolidating peace and stability and achieving development on the Korean Peninsula is in the full implementation of the DPRK-U.S. Joint Statement, agreed and adopted at the historic DPRK-U.S. summit held in Singapore in June, 2018, Kim Song, DPRK’s UN ambassador, told the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
More than a year has passed since the adoption of the June 12 Joint Statement. However, relations between the DPRK and the United States have made little progress and the situation on the Korean Peninsula has not come out of the vicious cycle of increased tension.
Kim blamed the impasse on “the political and military provocations perpetrated by the U.S., resorting to the anachronistic hostile policy against the DPRK.”
He noted that DPRK top leader, Kim Jong Un, has asked the United States to put aside its current method of calculation and approach the DPRK with a new one.
“Assuming that the U.S. has had enough time to find out a calculation method that can be shared with us, we expressed our willingness to sit with the United States for comprehensive discussion of the issues we have deliberated so far,” Kim said.
Kim also said, the historic inter-Korean declarations, which greatly excited the people of the two Koreas, as well as, the international community a year ago, are now in a standstill.– NNN-KCNA
