MUMBAI, Sept 26 (NNN-PTI) – Eleven people died and four others went missing late on Wednesday night, in rain related incidents in Pune, 150 km from Mumbai.
“Eleven persons have lost their lives, of which six died due to wall collapse, while four others have been drowned in various parts of the city, and one in other rain related incident.
Information on four people getting washed away has been received and search and rescue operations are underway,” said a police official from Pune Police control room today (Thursday).
Earlier this week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas.
Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force are being deployed for relief work. Schools and colleges have been asked to remain close, the police said.
This month – till yesterday, the city received 326.4 mm rainfall, of which 94 mm was on Wednesday.
In the monsoon season that started in June, as many as 1,422 people were killed in India, in rain and flood-related incidents in several states of the country till mid-Sept, according to the data compiled by the country’s home ministry.– NNN-PTI
