DAMASCUS, Sept 25 (NNN-SANA) – Syrian Foreign Minister, Walid al-Moallem, said that, the Syrian government rejects any outside interference in the work of the recently formed constitutional committee.
Al-Moallem made the remarks, in an interview with state TV, aired Tuesday evening, during which he said, members of the constitutional committee are the decision-makers, noting that the UN is a facilitator with no power of interference, in the essence of discussions.
On Monday, UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, announced that all relevant parties in Syria have agreed on the composition of a committee tasked with rewriting the country’s constitution.
Under an intra-Syrian agreement reached in Sochi, Russia, in Jan, 2018, the constitutional committee is to compose of representatives of the Syrian government, the opposition and civil society representatives, each with 50 members.
Meanwhile, al-Moallem said, the committee is a “Syrian property under Syrian leadership and has no place for foreign interference.”
The top Syrian diplomat said, the outcome of the committee’s work depends on the seriousness and the non-interference of countries that have a negative attitude towards the Syrian crisis.
He said that the actual work of the committee will begin as of Sept 30.
The formation of the constitutional committee is considered a key element in the Syrian political process to end the eight-year civil war.– NNN-SANA
