Caribbean on alert facing Tropical Storm Karen

SAINT JOHN’S, Sept 24 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The government of Antigua and Barbuda issued a tropical storm warning for the US and British Virgin Islands, in the face of Tropical Storm Karen’s Atlantic development.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in its latest report, Karen, the 11th tropical storm of the year, will advance across the southeastern Caribbean Sea and mainly impact Puerto Rico and the US and British Virgin Islands.

St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Martinique should pay full attention to Karen’s evolution, as they will be see rain and tropical storm force gusts of wind, which could increase in the next five days.

Karen’s center is advancing in a north-northwest direction at about 19 kilometers per hour with maximum winds of around 65 kilometers per hour, the NHC adds in the report.

According to the Center, the trajectory confirms the movement through the Caribbean Sea and for Tuesday will affect the Puerto Rican territories of Vieques and Culebra, as well as the Virgin Islands.

Karen will bring rain through Wednesday in the North Windward and Leeward islands, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, which could generate landslides and flash floods.
