Indian PM Calls For Comprehensive Global Efforts To Tackle Climate Change

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 24 (NNN-PTI) – A global people’s movement and a comprehensive approach are needed, to tackle the serious issue of climate change, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said on Monday.

Addressing the Climate Action Summit, held at the UN headquarters, Modi said, the efforts being made by different countries to tackle climate change at the moment are “not enough,” while a comprehensive global approach covering education, values and everything from lifestyle to behavioural change is needed.

The Indian prime minister said that an ounce of practice is worth more than a tonne of preaching.

“The time for talking is over, the world needs to act now,” as the situation has become alarming, Modi said, during his speech. He also listed efforts made by his country to boost renewable energy.

“We are encouraging e-mobility in India. We have also provided clean cooking gas connection, to 150 million families,” he said.

Modi added that India will increase the share of non-fossil fuel and is going to increase renewable energy capacity to beyond 175 gigawatts by 2022.

Hosted by UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, the 2019 Climate Action Summit aims to boost ambition and accelerate action, to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.– NNN-PTI
