India, Thailand Military Exercise Begins

NEW DELHI, India, Sept 17 (NNN-PTI) – The annual bilateral joint military exercise, MAITREE, between the Indian Army (IA) and Royal Thailand Army (RTA) commenced on Monday, according to an official statement.

The aim of the exercise is to jointly train troops in counter-terrorism operations, in both forest terrain and urban scenario. The 14-day exercise is conducted under the framework of the United Nations mandate.

Both the Army contingents will share their experiences in the counter-terrorism operations, in the form of lectures, drills, demonstrations and skill-at-arms, with the aim to refine tactics, techniques and procedures.

The exercise MAITREE is an annual training event, conducted alternatively in India and Thailand since 2006.– NNN-PTI
