AMMAN, Sept 16 (NNN-PETRA) – The Amman Chamber of Commerce called for removing obstacles imposed by the Syrian authorities on Jordanian exports, to boost trade exchange between the two countries.
In a statement, the chamber said, a meeting was held with a delegation from the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, to discuss measures to facilitate trade between the two countries.
At the meeting, it was stressed that the Jordanian merchants did not benefit from the reopening of the border crossing between Jordan and Syria.
Jordan’s exports to Syria have increased by 22 percent over the May-Aug period, in comparison with the same period of 2018, reaching 32 million U.S. dollars.
The Jordan-Syria border crossing was reopened in 2018.
In 2015, Jordan closed the Nasib Border Crossing for security concerns, while the Ramtha-Daraa Border Crossing has been closed for more than five years.
The closure of the two border crossings have caused heavy losses for Jordanian industries and business, as Syria is a big market for Jordanian products and a gateway for Jordan’s exports to Turkey and Europe.– NNN-PETRA
