KUCHING, Sept 15 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Sept 16, 1963 is a very important day for the people of Sarawak as it was the day that the state, together with Malaya, Sabah and Singapore formed a country called Malaysia, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He noted that Malaysia had achieved many successes and developments.
“There had been some constraints, including security issues in the beginning. We had confrontations with Indonesia and faced communist threats until eventually in the 70s we succeeded in establishing a stable government.
“To date, we have been able to establish a number of roadmaps focusing on rural development particularly in education, and Sarawak has progressed through the Sarawak Foundation and educational institutions that have been set up,” he told reporters.
Johari was also thankful that Sarawak in 56 years, despite numerous challenges had succeeded in becoming the state it is today.
