BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 15 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Brunei is expected to brace for thunderstorms during the monsoon season, which also coincides with active development of cyclonic systems over the Northwest Pacific and the South China Sea, local media reported.
Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) said that, no major reports of damages or injuries were recorded after the thunderstorms, with strong winds lashing some parts of the country on Friday.
BDMD said, when a cyclonic system develops, the sultanate will be indirectly influenced by the tropical depression, with the enhanced southwesterly monsoonal wind in the coming days.
BDMD also said, hazy conditions are expected to persist throughout the week. It said, dry weather prevailed over many areas of southern ASEAN with persistent hot-spots scattered around the region, causing smoke haze to be blown by the prevailing southwesterly winds towards the country.
According to the report, the reduction in horizontal visibility, ranging between four and six km, was reported at the Brunei International Airport.
The BDMD warned that strong winds and rough sea conditions are dangerous to all small craft and sea recreational activities and sports, including swimming, jet skiing and scuba diving among others.– NNN-BB NEWS
