Tunisia: 214 offenses registered during presidential election campaigns

TUNIS, Sept 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — Since the start of the early presidential election campaigns on Sept 2, a total of 214 offenses have been registered by Tunisia’s Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE).

The detected offenses included the promotion of speeches inciting hatred and discrimination, the exploitation of premises and public spaces and the use of mosques for the election campaign, the ISIE statement said.

It revealed the launch of an enlarged commission in charge of the control of the financing of the presidential and legislative electoral campaigns.

The commission will supervise the sources of financing of the various electoral campaigns of the 26 candidates.

The ISIE revealed that the commission had already made some decisions including controlling the personal bank account of the candidates in addition to the bank accounts reserved for the electoral campaigns and the financial transactions made by the presidential and legislative candidates since January. — NNN-XINHUA
