AMMAN, Jordan, Sept 5 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan, on Wednesday, received the first daily shipment of 10,000 barrels of Iraqi crude oil, Minister of Energy, Hala Zawati said, in a statement.
Under a deal, signed between Jordan and Iraq, Jordan will receive 10,000 barrels of oil per day, via oil tankers.
“The arrival of the first Iraqi batch of oil trucks highlights the progress of economic cooperation between Jordan and Iraq, and the start of a new stage in bilateral relations,” the minister said.
The oil, which was loaded at the Baiji station in Iraq’s Kirkuk, arrived at the Petroleum Refinery Company, Jordan’s only refinery, located in Zarqa governorate, to the north of Amman.
Under the deal, signed on Feb 2, Jordan would receive 10,000 barrels of Iraqi crude oil daily, with a discount of 16 U.S. dollars from the price of Brent crude per barrel, to cover the difference of transport costs and deviations in standards.
More than 200 trucks, 100 from each country, including individually and corporate-owned trucks, are participating in the transport process, the Energy Ministry said in a statement.
