BANGKOK, Sept 2 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on Monday alerted its offices across all provinces nationwide to prepare swift responses to the impacts of a depression in the South China Sea.

Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the department, said the depression will grow into a tropical storm and reach China’s Hainan Island before Tuesday.

“The tropical storm will cause more rains and possibly flash floods and landslides in the Northeast, before Sept. 3,” said Chayapol.

“Disaster prevention and mitigation officials in vulnerable provinces will take measures and procedures to cope with disasters and help victims. They will monitor weather conditions around the clock and put rapid movement units on standby for swift assistance,” Chayapol said.

He also said that his department had contacted various organizations and asked them to keep small boats ashore, prepare marine rescue resources and advise tourists to refrain from all marine activities during the time of rough sea.
