AMMAN, Jordan, Sept 2 (NNN-XINHUA) – Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, and his Swedish counterpart, Margot Wallstrom, underlined the need to ensure the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) can continue to provide services to Palestinian refugees.
In a press statement released in Amman, the ministers agreed to go ahead with efforts to mobilise support for the UN agency.
In talks in Amman, the two sides looked into efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the Yemeni conflict and the war on terrorism, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Safadi voiced appreciation for Sweden’s support to Jordan, to carry the burden of the Syrian refugee crisis, and commended Stockholm’s support to UNRWA.
He referred to Sweden’s contribution to the refugee agency, the latest of which was a sum of 200 million U.S. dollars over four years.
“More than 560,000 Palestinian students, including 122,000 in Jordan, are starting school this week and receiving their basic right to education, thanks to the support from Sweden and several other countries,” Safadi said.
The minister added that Jordan and Sweden agree on a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He also warned of the consequences of Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Swedish official stressed strong bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing to continuous cooperation.– NNN-XINHUA
