Peru rejects decision of ex-FARC members to take up arms

LIMA, Aug 31 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Government of Peru expresses its strongest condemnation of and rejects the decision of former FARC-EP members to take up arms again, thus violating the Peace Agreement signed with the Colombian Government in 2016.

Likewise, the Inca nation expresses its solidarity with the Government and people of Colombia due to this announcement against peace.

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Ministry reaffirms Peru’s total rejection of terrorism in all its forms. It also condemns all criminal and narcoterrorist groups.

In this sense, the Inca nation renews its firm support for the efforts undertaken by Colombia aimed at implementing the Peace Agreement, which ended a conflict that had lasted for over 50 years.

On Thursday, Ivan Marquez —FARC’s number two leader— joined by other former FARC leaders announced in a video that they would begin a new chapter in the armed conflict.

Marquez had served as FARC’s negotiating team chief during the peace talks in the city of Havana (Cuba). — NNN-ANDINA
