Two Killed, 19 Wounded As Minibus Falls From Mountain In Iraq’s Kurdistan

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug 31 (NNN-NINA) – Two people were killed and 19 wounded, Friday, when a tourist minibus fell from a mountain in Iraq’s semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, according to local sources.

The accident took place on Baranan Mountain, on a road leading to the city of Sulaymaniyah, some 375 km northeast of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The minibus carried tourists from other Iraqi provinces visiting Kurdistan region, according to the website of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

The killed and wounded were transferred to a hospital in the town of Darbandikhan, some 35 km southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah, the website said, adding that, three of the wounded people were in critical conditions.

Iraqis from central and southern Iraq often travel during hot summer to the mountainous areas of Iraqi Kurdistan, but accidents usually occur in rocky mountainous roads during such trips.– NNN-NINA
