Police smash illegal logging operation in Sarawak

MIRI, Aug 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The General Operations Force (PGA) has smashed an illegal logging operation with the arrest of a man and the seizure of timber and machinery valued at RM3 million.

PGA Miri Battalion 12 commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said the seizure, at an illegal sawmill in Long Lama at 1.30 pm yesterday, is the biggest so far here.

“A 22-year-old man, who was the caretaker of the sawmill, was arrested. An inspection revealed that the sawmill did not have the necessary documents, indicating that it was illegal,” he told a press conference here today.

He said the force also seized two lorries, two excavators and an assortment of timber.

The man and the seized goods were handed over the Sarawak Forestry Department, he said.
