Death toll in Drohobych building collapse rises to eight – State Emergency Service

KIEV, Aug 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The number of people killed in the collapse of an apartment building in western Ukraine rose sharply to eight, including one child, the Ukrainian state emergencies service said on Thursday.

The apartment building collapsed in the small town of Drohobych in the Lviv region on Wednesday night and the service said a gas explosion could be the cause.

It had originally said one person was killed.

The service said it had completed the rescue operation.

According to latest information, there are no people under the debris. Removal works continue,” the State Emergency Service said.

In total, 470 rescuers and 75 pieces of equipment were involved in emergency relief operations.

As reported, a gas explosion hit a four-storey apartment building on 101 Hrushevskoho Street at 02:46 on Wednesday night. All four storeys of one of the house sections collapsed as a result of the incident. — NNN-AGENCIES
