Iraqi Forces Ready To Respond To Any Aggression On Iraq: PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug 28 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi said, the Iraqi forces are ready to respond to any aggression, following attacks on ammunition depots, belonging to Hashd Shaabi forces.

Abdul Mahdi made the remarks, during the weekly cabinet meeting, where he briefed cabinet members on results of ongoing investigations, into attacks on arms depots in the country, a statement by Abdul Mahdi’s media office said.

Abdul Mahdi confirmed readiness of Iraq’s armed forces “to respond firmly and with all available means to any aggression launched from outside or inside Iraq.”

Abdul Mahdi’s comments came, a day after a statement by the Iraqi presidency office vowed to resort to regional and international organisations, to counter any violations of its sovereignty, after recent attacks against the Iraqi paramilitary Hashd Shaabi units.

On Sunday, two unknown drones pounded a position of the Hashd Shaabi’s 45th brigade, in an area near the town of al-Qaim, close to the border with Syria, leaving two Hashd Shaabi members killed and destroying two of their vehicles.

On Aug 21, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, deputy commander of the Hashd Shaabi, accused the United States of being behind the recent attacks on Hashd Shaabi’s bases.

Al-Mohandes made his comments, after a series of explosions at Hashd Shaabi’s arms depots in the central province of Salahudin.

On Aug 12, one person was killed and 29 others wounded, when a huge explosion hit an ammunition depot, at the Falcon military base in southern Baghdad, where Hashd Shaabi members are stationed, alongside Iraq’s federal police units.– NNN-NINA
