Five including two armed women rob goldsmith shop of 22 mln baht

PATTANI, Aug 25 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Two armed women were among five individuals who robbed a goldsmith shop of jewellery worth more than 22 million baht (RM3 million) in Nathavi, Songkhla, southern Thailand, yesterday.

Nathavi district police chief Kol Pol Akkarat Suansenn said the robbers, who were dressed like rangers, struck at the shop in the town centre at about 1.30 pm and fled with 15 kg of gold jewellery.

“The robbers also took with them the computer which was linked to the CCTV,” he said when contacted today.

Akkarat said there were four female workers in the shop at that time.

Preliminary investigations show that a van reported stolen in Pattani was used in the robbery.

“The van owner reported to police in Nong Chik that a group of men and women had approached him on the pretext of wanting to rent his van to go to Hatyai, Songkhla.

“They tied him up and blindfolded him before leaving him in a rubber estate and escaping with his van,” he said.

The van was later recovered in Kg Pobit Thai, Nathavi, about 15 km from the goldsmith shop.
