AMMAN, Jordan, Aug 22 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah of Jordan, underlined the need to step up efforts to achieve just, comprehensive and lasting peace, on the basis of the two-state solution between Palestinians and Israelis.
Such a solution should guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the king said, at a meeting with a U.S. Congress delegation, in Amman.
He voiced Jordan’s appreciation for U.S. support in various development programmes, while emphasising the important role of the U.S. Congress in this regard, according to a Royal Court statement.
Meanwhile, the U.S. delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region, and dealing with the current regional conditions.
Earlier, Jordanian Prime Minster, Omar Razzaz, also met with the U.S. delegation, highlighting the need to intensify efforts to reach a just and sustainable peace in the region.
Razzaz stressed Jordan’s firm support for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, in order to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and unity, while ensuring the voluntary return of refugees.– NNN-PETRA
