CARACAS, Aug 21 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The Venezuelan government plans to produce 13,540,000 tons of food for next year, despite the limitations of the blockade imposed by the United States.
Fruits, tubers, roots, legumes, cereals, tropical crops, eggs, meat, milk and their derivatives are the sustenance that the country estimates to produce in 2020.
In statements to Venezuelan Television the Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Wilmar Castro, reported that ‘despite all the obstacles and the blockade, the amount of 8,104,926 tons has already been reached and it is expected to increase this number next year.
Castro noted that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had budgeted 1.26 billion dollars for the agricultural sector, of which only 110 million could be used.
The intensification of unilateral coercive measures by the United States against Venezuela prevents the development of the agrifood industry in the South American nation.
Because of the shipping blockade, the entry of food distributed by the Local Supply and Production Committees, a system fostered by the Government of Venezuela to supply and distribute priority inputs through a home-by-house mode of product delivery, is limited. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
