LIMA, Aug 18 (NNN-ANDINA) — Just like the 39 Peruvian medalists who reached the podium at the latest edition of the Pan American Games in Lima, their fellow Para athletes who win medals at the Parapan American event will be rewarded with a modern, specially-designed apartment at the Athletes Village located in Villa El Salvador district.
Equipped with ramps, signage, tactile paving, emergency lights, and bathrooms for people with motor impairments, the flats enable easier access and movement of disabled persons.
This prize will be awarded to Para athletes who take gold, silver or bronze medals, in recognition of their effort and dedication.
The sixth edition of the Parapan American Games will officially take place in Lima, from Aug 23 to Sept 1, with the participation of 139 Peruvian Para athletes (94 men and 45 women), the nation’s largest delegation in the history of these Games, who seek to top the podium as they compete in 16 of the 17 sports.
Sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball will be the sports with the highest number of Peruvian athletes (12 women and 12 men).
The rest will compete in boccia, football 5, football 7, goalball, judo, Para athletics, Par badminton, Para cycling, Para swimming, Para powerlifting, Para taekwondo, Para table tennis, wheelchair tennis, and shooting Para sport.
Lima, the new sports capital of the Americas, will receive 1,890 Para athletes (1,247 men and 643 women) from 33 countries, who will participate in 17 Para sports and 18 disciplines.
To that end, the Organizing Committee is finalizing details for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the competitions, to repeat the success of the Pan American Games. — NNN-ANDINA
