Two Daesh Militants Killed In Air Strike In Eastern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug 17 (NNN-NINA) – Two Daesh militants were killed by an air strike, and two of the extremist group’s financiers were captured, on Friday, in the eastern Diyala province, a security official said.

An Iraqi aircraft carried out an air strike on a Daesh hideout, near Mteibijah area, near Diyala’s provincial border with Salahudin province, Sadiq al-Husseini, head of security of the provincial council, said.

The air strike resulted in the killing of two of the extremist Daesh militants, al-Husseini, said.

Previously, the Iraqi security forces tried to retake control of Mteibijah, but the vast rugged land and mountains have made it difficult for them to dislodge the extremist militants from the region.

Also in the province, security forces acted on intelligence reports and conducted an operation in the Himreen Mountain range, which stretches in the northern part of Diyala and arrested two of the groups’ financiers.

Despite repeated military operations in Diyala, Daesh remnants were still hiding in rugged areas, near the border with Iran, as well as, the sprawling areas extending from the western part of Diyala to Himreen.– NNN-NINA
