Ship prevented from reaching Venezuela allowed through Panama Canal

PANAMA CITY, Aug 10 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The BULKTEC bulk carrier, from Hong Kong, which Venezuela denounced had been held in Panama on route to the country, has sailed to Aruba, as reported by Prensa Latina on the Marine Traffic website.

On Twitter, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez reported that the cargo insurance company demanded a change of course for the ship, in compliance with the blockade imposed by the United States on the southern nation, and published the message that corroborated the demand.

The current destination of the ship, if not a stopover, confirms the Venezuelan government’s denunciation of the extraterritorial application of measures imposed by U.S. authorities and compliance with them by the supplier or transporter of soybeans purchased by Venezuela.

In response to Rodriguez, the Panama Canal Administration (PCA) distanced itself from the incident, and pointed out on the same social network:

‘Complying with the schedule, the Bulktec vessel, with reported cargo of soybeans, began Friday its transit through the Panama Canal, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, at 00:54 local time, the date for which it had reservation. Its transit ended at 12:30, in total normality’.

Earlier, after the Venezuelan Vice President’s denunciation and the insistence of accredited international media in this capital, the ACP said that ‘all scheduled transits are carried out with absolute normality and without setbacks’ and that no vessel was detained. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
