Crime In Philippines “Remains On A Downtrend”: Philippines Police

MANILA, Philippines, Aug 10 (NNN-PNA) – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Oscar Albayalde, said that, crime in the Philippines “has remained on a downtrend,” adding that the government is winning the war on illegal drugs.

“Let me assure our countrymen that all police operations against illegal drugs continue to be conducted within the bounds of law, with the utmost respect for human rights,” Albayalde said, in a speech celebrating the 118th Police Service Anniversary.

As the PNP remained relentless in the war on drugs, Albayalde said, the police force “effectively sustained the decline in crime rate” as they intensified operations particularly against such crimes as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery and theft.

Over the past three years, Albayalde said, “Crime incidents continually decreased.”

From more than 626,000 from July, 2015 to June, 2016, he said, the total crime volume in the country decreased by 58,276 or 9.30 percent during the first year of President Duterte’s term, covering the period July, 2016 to June, 2017.

And this further decreased by 79,647 incidents, or 14.02 percent, on the second year covering the period July, 2017 to June, 2018, and further went down by 2.91 percent on the third year covering the period July, 2018 to June, 2019.– NNN-PNA
