BANGKOK, Thailand, Aug 7 (NNN-TNA) – Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, will take a field trip to southern Yala province, on Wednesday (today), to promote peace and economic growth there, government spokesperson, Narumon Pinyosinwat said.
The spokesperson said, Prayut is to preside over the opening of the Southern Border Provincial Government Centre and One Start One Stop Investment Centre (OSOS), and he will also observe quality durian management of Yala farmers, and meet with people of the southern border provinces.
The prime minister will also preside over the opening of the victim assistance centre, for those who have been impacted by southern insurgencies.
According to the spokesperson, the Thai government placed priority on comprehensive development of the southern border provinces, especially in security and economic dimensions, including infrastructure development, construction of roads, seaports, airports, and cultivation of major agricultural crops.
She added that durian, in particular, is Yala province’s major economic crop and there has been a collective effort by all concerned sectors to promote Yala as the southern centre of durian.
Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat are the three southern-most provinces, haunted by an ongoing conflict, involving gunshots and bomb attacks.– NNN-TNA
