JAKARTA, Aug 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Banten province in Java was rocked by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake at 7.03 pm (local time) today.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said tremors were also felt in Jakarta, located about 120 kilometres away.
It said the epicentre was 147km southwest of Sumur-Banten and also issued a tsunami warning for the southern part of Pandeglang, Lampung and Sukabumi.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, reports from social media say there were cases of panic among people in Sumur, following the issuance of the tsunami threat.
