Sudan Issues Decree To Restructure National Security Body

KHARTOUM, Sudan, July 30 (NNN-SUNA) – Sudan, on Monday, issued a constitutional decree, to restructure the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS).

The decree, issued by Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, also changes the name of the NISS to the General Intelligence Organ (GIO).

“The amendment stipulated in the constitutional decree comes within the framework of structuring the NISS to cope with political change in the country,” said NISS’s Director General, Abu-Bakr Dambalab.

By changing its name, NISS becomes more professional in protecting the country and safeguarding its national security against very complicated threats, he noted.

After the ouster of former President, Omar al-Bashir, by the Sudanese army in April, the opposition forces demanded NISS be dissolved.

However, the TMC, which is running the country’s affairs, insists on the existence of NISS, but agrees to restructure it into a body that focuses on combating terrorism and espionage, preventing human trafficking and fighting corruption and money laundering.– NNN-SUNA
