Iran, Oman Discuss Ties, Regional Issues

TEHRAN, Iran, July 28 (NNN-TASNIM) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and his Omani counterpart, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, discussed bilateral ties and regional issues, on Saturday.

In a tweet following the meeting, Zarif said, they discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and security in the Gulf area, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

The Omani foreign minister’s visit to Tehran comes, amid rising tensions in regional waters, between Iran and some western countries, over the passage of oil tankers.

Over the past weeks, Iran seized two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, for what it called “fuel smuggling” and “violating maritime regulations,” and it downed a U.S. drone for “violating its airspace” in the southern waters.

Earlier, the Omani Foreign Ministry, said, Oman urged all parties to resolve disagreements through diplomatic means, while maintaining self-restraint.

Oman has a history of mediating between Iran and western countries, particularly the United States, over their conflicts.– NNN-TASNIM
