Lebanon’s House Speaker Optimistic About Solution Over Border Dispute With Israel

BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 25 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanon’s House Speaker, Nabih Berri, said that, positive developments have taken place, with regard to borders demarcation with Israel.

“We still have one issue in discussion, which is whether both the land and the maritime borders will be decided on together, during the negotiations with Israel,” Berri was quoted as saying.

Berri added that, he is optimistic about the possibility of reaching a final solution to this issue.

Lebanon has been trying to find a solution to the border dispute with Israel, for it to be able to begin oil and gas exploration later this year, in parts of the Mediterranean Sea it controls.

Lebanon has an unresolved maritime border with Israel, that involves a triangular sea area of about 860 square km, extending along the edge of three of its 10 offshore energy blocks.

The United States mediated between Lebanon and Israel to end the dispute, but failed to reach any positive results.– NNN-NNA
