Remains Of 70 Kurdish Bodies Dug Out In Southern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 24 (NNN-NINA) – Iraq dug out the remains of at least 70 apparently Kurdish bodies, at a mass grave in Iraq’s southern province of Muthanna.

According to a statement by the Martyrs Foundation, the mass grave dates back to the former regime of Saddam Hussein, while a survivor said, it dates back to 1988.

“The number of bodies is expected to increase because the burial was done randomly,” the statement said.

“The victims appear to be children and women, and their personal belongings indicate that they are from the Kurdish community,” it noted.

Established in 2005, as a governmental institution, the Martyrs Foundation is tasked with dealing with the general situation of the martyrs families, and compensating them materially and morally.

The mass grave in Muthanna is expected to contain the remains of hundreds of Iraqi Kurds, who were detained during the notorious Anfal Campaign, carried out in the late 1980’s by the forces of former Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein.– NNN-NINA
