LONDON, July 23 (NNN) — Britain’s Conservative party announced Boris Johnson as the winner of the party’s leader election and consequently the country’s new Prime Minister.
Boris Johnson gained a total of 92, 153 votes against Jeremy Hunt’s 46,656 from a total voters percentage of 87.4 percent from the number of 159 323 eligible voters. There were 509 votes rejected.
The returning officer of the party’s election committee made the announcement close to midday here today.
Boris Johnson who delivered a speech following the announcement, thanked outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May and also promised to deliver the Brexit.
He likened Britain to a slumbering giant that will once again rise again and be energised.
