CAIRO, Egypt, July 23 (NNN-MENA) – An Egyptian court sentenced 14 people, to imprisonment terms ranging from three to 25 years, for joining the Daesh group in Syria and Iraq.

Giza Criminal Court sentenced 11 people to life sentence, which is 25 years in jail in Egypt. Another three received three to 15 years in jail.

The defendants were accused of joining the Daesh in Syria and Iraq, and receiving training, to carry out offensive operation inside Egypt, according to the prosecution.

Investigations proved that the defendants have planned, from 2016 to 2018, to spread public disorder, changing the government by force, breaking into some governmental institutions, and attacking police and army headquarters.

The defendants were also charged with establishing a terrorist group and weapons possession.

Egypt has been experiencing anti-security attacks, since the Islamist leader, Mohamed Morsi (now deceased) was ousted in 2013, and his Muslim Brotherhood group was banned in 2014.

Most of the attacks, that killed hundreds of security men, have been claimed by a Daesh branch in the Sinai Peninsula.– NNN-MENA
