TEHRAN, April 24 (dpa) – Iranians have been cut off from access to the global internet for a 56th consecutive day, connectivity watchdog Netblocks said on Friday.
"It's now the 56th day of Iran's internet blackout, with international connectivity severed for over 1,320 hours," the organization wrote on X.
It described the blackout as the "longest recorded national internet shutdown in a connected society," warning that "conditions deteriorate amid warfare and reported executions" in the country.
The Iranian government largely blocked access to the global internet in response to the US-Israeli attack on February 28.
Since then, Iran's population of 90 million has only been able to access the restricted internal network, where state-approved content is available.
A small section of the military and the country's power apparatus are still able to use the internet without restrictions. Iranian media outlets are also publishing news on Telegram and X, platforms that are largely blocked within the country. --NNN-dpa
