Egypt’s Sisi Congratulates Sudan On Reaching Transitional Period Agreement

CAIRO, Egypt, July 18 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, congratulated the Sudanese people on signing a political agreement between the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition, for the coming transitional period, the Egyptian presidency said, in a statement, on Wednesday.

Sisi’s remarks came, during his talks in Cairo with visiting Sudanese army Chief of Staff, Hashem Ahmed Abdel-Muttalib Babakr, where they discussed the latest developments in Sudan, Egypt’s presidential spokesman, Bassam Rady, said.

Sisi said that the agreement between the TMC and the opposition coalition of Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), “paves the way for the beginning of a new course in Sudan.”

The two sides are currently working on a constitutional declaration, that is expected to be signed on Friday (tomorrow), to pave the way for political transition, after the army ousted 75-year-old President, Omar al-Bashir, in April, after four months of mass protests against his three-decade rule.

Chaired by Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, the TMC is tasked with running Sudan’s affairs temporarily, during the transitional period.– NNN-MENA
