MUSCAT, Oman, July 17 (NNN-ONA) – The number of mobile phone lines in Oman grew to reach 6,601,883 by the end of last May, up 2.5 percent from the end of 2018, according to the latest official statistics.
Prepaid lines came on top with 5,866,567 lines, up 2.4 percent compared with the end of last year, said Oman’s National Centre for Statistics & Information (NCSI).
Lines used by the major operators, Omantel and Ooredoo were 5,090,483, while those by re-sale companies, such as, Firendi And Rana were 776,084, NCSI said, in a statement.
Land lines in the Sultanate went up, by the end of May, 2019, to reach 574,627, up 2.6 percent compared with the end of 2018.
Oman, with a population of about two million, implemented the use of 5G technology last year, in eight different locations nationwide, mostly through Omantel via the Chinese telecom giant Huawei.– NNN-ONA
