MUMBAI, July 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least 40 people are feared to be trapped under debris as a four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s crowded neighbourhod of Dongri Tuesday morning.

The National Disaster Response Force, fire tenders and ambulances have been rushed to the Tandel street, Abdul Hamid Durga, in Dongri, for the rescue operation.

The structures in the area are old and dilapidated and reportedly, redevelopment work was also happening on some buildings in the locality.

The buildings adjacent to the one that collapsed are also being evacuated.

Crowds have thronged to the narrow lanes, where it is extremely difficult for heavy machines to reach, and passed down small debris by hand towards the outer area of the neighbourhood to aid in the rescue. — NNN-AGENCIES
