YANGON, Myanmar, July 16 (NNN-MNA) – A cargo vessel laden with charcoal, capsized in the Chindwin River, in Myanmar’s Sagaing region, with no casualties confirmed, according to the Sagaing Region Marine Administration Department, today (Tuesday).
The cargo vessel, loaded with over 1,750 tonnes of charcoal, from a private company, met with the tragedy near Shwekyin village, in Kalewa township of the region, on Monday.
When the vessel came near Zeedauk village, its paddle wheel got blocked by floating timber, causing loss of control.
The vessel capsized after the hull sprang a leak.
Authorities carried out rescue operation in the Chindwin River after the incident.
According to the department, it had issued a whirlpool warning to vessels plying in the river, last month.– NNN-MNA
