MEXICO CITY, July 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Mexican authorities extradited an alleged drug trafficker to the United States for him to be tried by a federal court, the Attorney General’s Office said.
Jesus Navarrete Castelan, an alleged leader of the “Los Rojos” drug cartel, will be tried over accusations of criminal association and crimes against public health for smuggling cocaine into the United States between 2007 and 2009.
According to the Mexican authorities, police officers working for the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) handed over the individual to FBI agents at Mexico City’s airport.
Until his arrest in Mexico in 2015, Navarrete Castelan had been listed as one of FBI’s most-wanted fugitives.
The “Los Rojos” drug cartel was formed by former members of the Beltran-Leyva brothers’ cartel, and operates in the Mexican states of Guerrero and Morelos. — NNN-AGENCIES
