AMMAN, Jordan, July 15 (NNN-PETRA) – A football social project was officially launched on Sunday in Jordan, which aims to bring hope and optimism to children living in Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp.
The La Liga-Zaatari Social Project has been developed by La Liga, the Spanish football league, for a year, through its department of Sports Projects and the La Liga Foundation, in collaboration with Association Football Development Programme Global (AFDP Global), an international social enterprise.
The aim of the project is to make football as an enduring educational tool, that helps improve the quality of life of Syrian refugees in Jordan’s Zaatari camp, especially that of children, said a statement by AFDP Global.
La Liga President, Javier Tebas, Jordanian Prince, and the founder of AFDP Global, Ali Bin Al-Hussein, and Spanish Ambassador to Jordan, Aranzazu Banon attended the launching ceremony.
The project will fund a league competition, which will be divided into two categories, a U15 male league, consisting of 20 teams, and a U13 female league of 16 teams.
The Jordanian prince said at the ceremony that, the inauguration of the project is an important moment for the young people of Zaatari, as football has the power to shape characters and teaches children about the values of teamwork and the importance of taking responsibility.
Tebas said, after a year of hard work, La Liga has been able to transmit the philosophy of the competition to the neighbourhoods of Zaatari.
The project will educate children about “the values of sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, respect, and tolerance,” he added.
There are some 80,000 Syrian refugees living in the camp, according to official figures.– NNN-PETRA
