ADEN, Yemen, July 14 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s government forces announced that around 20 members of the Houthi rebel group were killed, in an ambush in the country’s south-eastern province of Marib.
According to a statement by the army’s media centre, “government forces set up a well-prepared ambush for the Houthis in Serwah district, west of Marib province, leaving around 20 rebels killed and several others injured.”
The armed ambush came, two days following fierce armed confrontations between the Yemeni government forces and the Houthi rebels in Serwah, front of the government-controlled Marib.
Earlier this month, a missile attack launched by the Houthi rebels completely destroyed the governor’s home and damaged several other adjoining houses in Marib, about 170 km north-east of the rebel-held capital, Sanaa.
The Yemeni government forces, backed by the Saudi-led coalition, have been locked in clashes with the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in the north, east and west parts of Taiz, since April, 2015.– NNN-SABA
