BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 14 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanon’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ghassan Hasbani, said that, sanctions imposed by the United States earlier this week, on three Hezbollah officials, are not targeting the Lebanese.
“The United States does not have any problem with the Lebanese, but the sanctions were imposed against a specific political party operating in Lebanon, and against anyone who belongs to, or supports this party,” Hasbani said.
“The U.S. is keen not to target institutions and we are keen to remind them about this, especially when it comes to the importance of supporting the Lebanese army and protecting the banking sector,” he said.
Hasbani said that the most important thing to do now is to protect Lebanon against big struggles and clashes.
The deputy prime minister also noted that, he has no information at all about the U.S. plans to extend its sanctions on allies of Hezbollah.
Hasbani’s remarks come, after the U.S. Treasury’s announcement that it has slapped sanctions on three key Hezbollah figures, including two members of the Lebanese parliament.
All property and interests in property of those sanctioned targets, that were subject to U.S. jurisdiction, would be blocked, and the Americans were generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.– NNN-NNA
