NEW YORK CITY, July 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) – A widespread power outage, Saturday evening, left much of Manhattan, including the Upper West Side and Rockefeller Centre, without electricity, authorities say.
The blackout was reportedly caused by a transformer fire, New York fire officials said. New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, said that, the New York Police Department has confirmed there was no foul play, “this was a mechanical issue.”
Con Edison, said that, they are working to restore power to roughly 42,000 customers on the West Side of Manhattan impacted by the power outage.
Several Broadway shows have been cancelled for the night, including “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and “The Cher Show,” according to Broadway World.
The blackout is between W 42nd St and 72nd St, from the Hudson River to as far as 5th Ave. NYPD confirmed that there’s no foul play. This was a mechanical issue. NYPD & FDNY are currently responding to people with the most urgent needs, especially those stuck in elevators.– NNN-AGENCIES
