CAIRO, April 17 (NNN-QNA) — The Arab League has strongly condemned Israel’s appointment of an ambassador to the northwestern region of Somalia, known as Somaliland, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
In a statement, it said the move is invalid and illegal, describing it as a serious escalation and a clear violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as international law and the UN Charter.
The League reaffirmed its firm position, citing a previous council meeting that rejected any recognition of or dealings with the region outside Somalia’s sovereignty.
It warned that such actions pose a direct threat to Arab national security and stability in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa, and could affect international navigation and trade. The statement added that Israel’s approach reflects disregard for international legitimacy and legal norms.
